Your input is very important to us and will help us improve communication in the future. In our efforts to continually evaluate and improve our services, we have developed two online surveys to collect your feedback about the COVID-19 Data Tracker and Messages from your Medical Officer of Health. As part of our pandemic response efforts, two key resources that were implemented to communicate important and timely information were these messages from me and the Durham Region COVID-19 Data Tracker. The Health Department remains committed to communicating information to help residents make informed decisions about their health. Washing your hands often and properly can remove germs that can make you and others ill. Additionally, please continue to practice good hand hygiene. Wearing a mask continues to be an effective public health measure for reducing the spread of respiratory illnesses. The flu and COVID-19 are caused by different viruses and one vaccine will not protect against both viruses.Īs an additional layer of protection, masks are strongly recommended in indoor public settings, including schools and childcare settings. To protect yourself and your loved ones against the respiratory viruses that are actively circulating in our community, residents are reminded to get their annual flu shot, as well as a COVID-19 vaccine if you haven’t received a COVID-19 vaccine within the last six months. Up to date flu data are available on the Durham Region Flu Tracker. Currently, flu cases are highest in our youngest residents, zero to four-years old. In comparison, there were a total of 84 laboratory confirmed cases for the entire 2021/2022 flu season. Local flu activity is also high with more than 500 laboratory confirmed cases of influenza already reported this season. Up to date local COVID-19 data are available on the Durham Region COVID-19 Data Tracker. Over the past month, COVID-19 activity has remained steady, and wastewater viral signals remain high indicating that the virus continues to circulate in the community.
